You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me: Unraveling the Threads🧵🙏

Welcome back to our “You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me” series, where I peel back the layers of my ongoing medical saga. Today, we’re unraveling a thread—quite literally.

In my latest surgery, a discovery was made that left us all in disbelief: a collection of blue sutures, remnants of a past procedure, were found scattered within me. These weren’t the dissolvable kind; they were permanent stitches that had been left behind, nestled in my body like uninvited guests overstaying their welcome.

Dr. B, the surgeon at the helm of this latest operation, was taken aback by the presence of granulomas—small areas of inflammation caused by the body’s response to these foreign objects. These granulomas could have been the body’s attempt to ‘sew up’ old wounds, a kind of internal patchwork done without any seamstress’s consent.

The question that echoed in the operating room and now haunts me: What issues were these lingering stitches causing? They resided within me, a hidden influence, their purpose and impact a mystery.

It’s a concerning thought, the idea that something left behind could be quietly influencing your wellbeing, disrupting the harmony of your body without your knowledge. As these unwanted souvenirs were removed, a wave of emotions washed over me—relief mingled with frustration.

Sharing this piece of my story is more than just cathartic; it’s a call to remain vigilant about our healthcare. To ask the difficult questions, to demand thorough explanations, and to ensure that when it comes to our bodies, no stone is left unturned—or in this case, no suture left sewn.

The path to healing is often a complex one, filled with unexpected detours and revelations. But with each “You’ve got to be kidding me” moment, I’m learning to navigate this labyrinth with a stronger voice and a more empowered spirit.

As we journey forward, let’s remember to advocate for ourselves with every stitch of our being, and to seek out care that leaves no part of our story hidden or unaddressed.

Stay tuned as we continue to stitch together the narrative of health, awareness, and self-advocacy.

Warmly with love and hope,

🦋
